Consecrated on Thursday 23rd October 1919
The WARRANT or CHARTER was issued on 3rd September 1919, on the authority of the Grand Master, HRH The Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, and is required to be produced at the beginning of every meeting of the Lodge.
The name 'SOUTHBOURNE' is derived from the name of a small hamlet which was part of the Eastbourne area in the mid-18th century; situated generally between Southfields Road and the top of Grove Road and South Street, where the Town Hall now stands and the nearby Saffrons Rooms, which was the meeting place for Eastbourne Lodges for several years.
The officers and brethren of Southbourne Lodge welcome you to our website and hope you find it interesting.
Becoming a freemason does incur some costs. There is a registration fee that has to be paid to United Grand Lodge of England, although this is a one off cost, at present £132. Belonging to the Lodge has an annual membership fee, currently £130. Both of these fees have to be paid before your first meeting and depending on which month you join the annual fee may be reduced.
We are a Lodge that dines at our Festive Board after each meeting and our dress code is black/dark suit, white shirt, black tie and the current cost of our festive board (4 course meal) is £16. Although it is not compulsory to dine we do like to see as many members as possible at the Festive Board.
Also there is the regalia, although this only becomes necessary when you become a Master Mason, consisting of an apron that costs between £20 and £40 depending on where you buy from.Read More
